Direct Deposit and Stimulus Checks

Following the $1.9 trillion stimulus package that was agreed by American lawmakers earlier this week, some people have already found themselves with a very welcome surprise.

They received cold hard cash straight into their bank account.

Do you know anyone who’d complain about that?

Every time you spend a dollar it helps to boost the economy.

Many Americans will be in line for around $1,400 from the government, which may help to pay for essentials and little luxuries that will support the economy during this difficult period.

Not everyone qualifies: college students and higher-income families are being excluded.

Children and teenagers under the age of eighteen also won’t receive a payment, nor will adults who didn’t submit a tax return in the last couple of years.

So it’s not a universal payment, and there are ongoing arguments about whether more or fewer people should have been included, which is a question that ultimately comes down to a person’s political beliefs.

But many millions of citizens are in line to receive some form of income from the American government.

This is now the third stimulus payment, and the first of Joe Biden’s presidency.

The other two were sent in 2020, under the final years of Donald Trump’s tenure.

People who set up Direct Deposit are getting their payments right now, whereas those who opted for the more traditional method of receiving a check in the mail will still have to wait until at least next week or maybe later.

So there’s a huge incentive to get organized and do your banking online.

It’s also much easier than keeping paper records in dusty old folders, which could be likely to get lost just when you need to get your hands on them.

Now where did I put that important piece of paper again?

However, it may now be too late to pass your electronic bank details onto the IRS, because the payments have been processed and are currently working their way through the system.

Whatever you decide to spend your money on, you will be helping the American — and global — economy to recover, because buying any kind of products will support businesses and workers at this important time.

But wouldn’t it be so much nicer if you spent that money on something that will make you feel good every time you use or look at it?
